More photos of the Tracked APC's

Here's a few more photos of the two tracked APC's built with spare track parts...

Track Conversion No 2 and Other Stuff

I've made another tracked vehicle using the remaining spare track units from the Khurasan Siler Heavy Tank that had the grav vehicle mod. Here's a bunch of photos of the construction process...

The main bits cut out of 1mm thick plasticard.
Track sections attached to the base (base is 40mm x 36mm with 11mm x 3mm slots each side)
Top bit and Edge bits added to make a tracked tea tray (top bit 40mm x 40mm, edges 42mm x 6mm with chamfered ends)
Milliput on the base - somewhere for the machinery to go.
More milliput build up on the top over the tracks and front section.
Then a bit more milliput to build up the cab unit which has had a 7mm hole drilled in it when its dry.
The gun and crewmen added, along with a plasticard shield. This is a more heavy gun than was on the last one, either an artillery piece or an anti-tank cannon.
More plasticard panels and side skirts added, Half BB's and plastic airplane bits stuck on for detail
Finished and painted.

The donor vehicle for the tracks, this is the Silar Heavy Tank from Khurasan with the grav modification.

This has had an additional gun mounted on the turret for the commander. The gun is another spare autocannon from a Khurasan's DIMOG walker.

On the previous tracked conversion this was the main gun, on the battle tank it's just a minor secondary weapon! Shows how big the tank is.
Speaking of Khurasan stuff, here's some Nova Respublic figures (the next lot of infantry I'm painting up).
And here's some camo scrim nets made from plastic netting (contained garlic originally so proof against visibility and vampires) with flocking material stuck on and then painted.

Bugs in the Reactor

Now I've got enough aliens, I've been getting ready to play the Bugs in the Reactor scenario in Tomorrow's War.

Here's the miniatures for the scenario all lined up quite in quite a friendly manner, blissfully unaware of the carnage yet to come.
The civilians who built their reactor on top of an alien burial ground. Although some of them carry weapons they will be ineffective in combat.

The Bugs. Justifiably upset with the colonists, they seek to gain their revenge by taking out a no win, no fee legal damages claim in the local courts. Failing a successful result they will resort to eating the colonists.

Eight groups of 5 aliens each, armed to the with teeth.

The King and Queen, not sure which is which. These are old Citidal miniatures.

The legionnaires. Three squads of bad ass trooper types. All they are missing is a nuke to take off and bomb the aliens with from orbit. Which is a shame as they are probably going to need one.

The local patrol force. Two fireteams of lightly armed victims. Plus their patrol vehicle.

While reading through the scenario I realised they needed a converted tractor type vehicle with tracks, which I didn't have. I was going to substitute a wheeled Old Crow APC when I also realised I had 4 sets of spare tracks that came with my Khurasan Heavy Tank which has the anti-grav modification... so a bit of work with plasticard, milliput, spare plastic model parts and one of the spare autocannons from a Khurasan DIMOG armoured suit (Khurasan do put a lot of spare parts in some their models) and I came up with this tracked monster future Bren Gun Carrier.

The vehicle is crewed with a spare half man (Khurasan again), and a crouching heavy machine gunner (Oddzial Osmy's New Vistula Legion).

I could do with a seated vehicle commander as it is supposed to have a crew of 3 but I may not have anything suitable. Have to paint 3 more patrol types also for when their vehicle gets eaten and they have to dismount

Next task, make up a few more road sections to cover the length and width of the 6' x 4' table. The colonists buildings may very well start out as ruins - building on alien burial grounds is terrible for subsidence.

Easter Bank Holiday Carnage Ahoy!!!

Grav Tank #2

Work in Progress photos for the next grav tank conversion. This time I'll try 4 wire supports with so called "invisible" No More Nails smoke sculpting.

Cleverly I've superglued the tank to the smoke supports before undercoating, so I'm going to have to wrap the supports and base in clingfilm before spraying.

The plan is for this to form the core of the smoke plume, painted a light purple colour similar to grav tank #1, and then after sealing it with matt varnish put a layer of clear Gel Denso acrylic transparant gel on to give some smoke like depth to it.

Grav Tank on Patrol

A grav tank providing armoured support to a Harook infantry patrol as they cross open ground.

The grav tank vents steam from its fusion drive as it hovers over the ground.

This is where the idea for the flying base came from and this is where the modelling technique came from. Might try out some different painting techniques for the smoke, trying to light from the top with a bit of the purple coming through from inside, any advice on painting smoke is welcome.

Harook, as always, from Mad Robot Miniatures (can't reference them enough!).

Flightless no more!

When Eric Strobe had his one man aerojet refused a licence on safety grounds, he was broken hearted. When he heard of the Harook recently encountered on a newly discovered planet he perked up and packed up his prototypes.

Unfortunately for Eric, the Harook took offence in their usual way, their flightlessness being somewhat of a sore point with them. Luckily for Eric's heirs and benefactors, after the fuss had died away, a few Harook actually took a look at the jet powered death trap and all the points the licensing body had judged dangerous counted as positive features to the Harook.

The Falcon class one man attack plane is unique in that the pilot rides the craft externally rather than in a cockpit much like a motorcycle. The relatively high stall speed and lack of advanced avionics means that the Harook pilot must fly fast and low in order to acquire targets. The lack of suitable hardpoints for dropped weapons means the Harook are limited to strafing runs firing the dual mounted cannon. All these negative features are considered by the Harook to make a superb aircraft.
 _____________________________________________________________________________________________

The plane is a slightly converted die-cast Tron one man light jet. The plane comes with a plastic figure, probably about 1:72 scale or so, but not too different is size to the Harook. I've green stuffed a quite crude chicken like head on it as I didn't feel like sacrificing one of my Harook for its head, as well as being uncertain as to how to attach it to the soft plastic figure.

I've also extended the fuselage with some more green stuff, mainly as the balance point is between the wings and therefore there was no convenient point to put a flying stand

You can get all your real Harook from Mad Robot Miniatures. The diecast jet I got from the Works (a discount bookstore in the UK) for £1.99, along with a bunch of other Tron models which may end up being grav vehicles.
